The President's Gala Fun Day
was held in glorious weather on Saturday 4th August.
A themed dress code for the day was essentially colourful, bowls shoes were the order of the day as well as outrageous fun hats were to be worn! They were to be as stylish or simple or as crazy as you liked!
An expert panel of judges was on hand for the "Outrageous fun hats parade" which was held before the start and prizes were awarded for best lady’s and men’s hat! The "Winners" seen here with their President Sue Thurlow.
These photographs (click to enlarge) show what a great fun day we had.
A Ritz Hotel Style Afternoon Tea, with a glass of Prosecco, was provided afterwards – along with freshly cut sandwiches,
home-made scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam and a mouth watering selection of delicious cakes followed by fresh strawberries and meringues, tea and coffee.
Bowls Tour of Bournemouth
Members of St. Albans & District Bowls Association attended a five day
"Tour of Bournemouth" from 25th - 29th June 2018.
The coach left early on Monday but due to severe traffic delays (par for the course on the M25!) we arrived five hours late at New Milton Bowls Club. They were very thoughtful and in view of the warm weather remade the sandwich lunch, after which we played our first game of the tour.
Accommodation was in the Ocean Beach Hotel, Bournemouth and with wall to wall sunshine it was like being abroad.
Different bowls matches were arranged, at clubs, including Southbourne, Boscombe, Kings Park and The Argyll. Plenty of variety and St. Albans & District won overall.
Our thanks to Jan Southwell President of SADBA, for organising the entire
"Tour of Bournemouth" and for awarding prizes for top male and female bowlers.
For non bowlers, there was lots to do, including a wide variety of shops in Bournemouth, or even a dip in the sea, so something for everyone.
