Care for Our Green
Our lawn bowls green is one of our major club assets. In recent years we have been working to steadily improve the speed of our green as a playing surface and with some satisfaction we can now say it is one of the best in the County. It has been carefully constructed with ditches to surround the green in accordance with the laws of the game of bowls. The bowling green is regularly maintained by an enthusiastic team of roughly 8-10 volunteer members. They give countless hours of care and attention to ensuring the quality of the green as a bowling surface is kept to a very high standard. We have two main green-keepers and they manage the team to ensure even usage of the green. There are various places for playing on the green and a careful rotation is operated in the way games are played. Our green and the surrounding areas are maintained every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from April until the end of September.
We have an impressive array of machinery to assist in working on our green; mowers that enable us to cut the grass to around 4.5mm, various other machines for spraying compounds onto the green, an automated watering system, multiple hedge trimmers and lots of other equipment.
Recently a member of the green team (Paul Stevens) created a short video showing we had 3 mowers in action – see the video following! A big thankyou to our Green Rangers (David Salmon and David Arnold) and to the whole team who do a lot of work for us.
As soon as the season ends, the Maintenance Team are hard at work straight away making our green the best in Hertfordshire during September/ October for the season opening in April
See below the work carried out end at the end of September.
