Joining Our Club
When you join Potters Bar Bowls Club you will have joined a very friendly club. All our members are treated with courtesy and you will come to realise that care and good manners are an integral part of the desired behaviour that we all aim to apply when playing the game. You will feel like you are part of a special community of bowls players who know and respect one another.
You will receive at least four sessions of coaching on how to play bowls; all completely free, and provided by certified coaches with proven skills. The joining process is generally overseen by our coaches and by our membership secretary. After completing your coaching sessions you will complete a basic registration form and then your name is published at the club house so existing members know who has applied to join the club. At that point you will pay your first year membership subscriptions.
During your initial coaching you will learn how to control your bowling delivery and the hand signals you apply to centre the jack. Fundamentally lawn bowls is a very simple game where you stand on a mat and bowl a bowl over various distances to get your bowls as close as you can to a small white ‘jack bowl’. However, as with all games there are tips and tricks you will need to learn and you will soon realise that the bowl has a bias that usually makes it travel in an arc or curve that you must allow for when bowling.
We all play for the pleasure of playing the game and compete with other players to win our games. As in all games there is a competitive element to the game. It is up to you whether you want to play in ever more advanced and higher skilled competitions.
