Men's Games;
The Ranson Cup – East Herts Bowls League
The club entered the EHBL 2 years ago and now have squads playing in each of the 3 divisions. With 14 teams in each division, this year Potters Bar finished a very respectable 6th, 6th and 4th.
All clubs enter the RANSON CUP and we had a bye in the Preliminary round. Hertingfordbury conceded the game to us, Northaw & Cuffley were brushed aside, resulting in a semi final against Buntingford.. This was seen as a ‘tall order’, as Buntingford were top of Division 1 and a recognised strong team. Our Home team lost by 2 shots, but the Away team caused not a little upset by beating a disgruntled Buntingford team by 4 shots against the odds – a Potters Bar net positive of 2.
Unfortunately, the Final clashed with our own Final’s weekend which provided David Astley with a challenge as it would take 8 players away for our Sunday morning session, some of whom had finals to play.
However, on a cold, damp morning, the eight PB representatives travelled to Welwyn & District for the Final. After 18 ends the scores were tied, resulting in the toss of a coin to determine which team played the extra end, with all 8 players thinking, “Do I want the responsibility……?”.
Well, after another 16 woods had been delivered, the Umpire was summoned, and with the tension unbearable, he moved the Potters Bar wood – WE HAD WON!!
A big thank you to Richard for managing the RANSON CUP – I don’t think anyone could have written the script!

Herbert Cross Triples
Well done to our team who defeated Welwyn Garden City at home to win the Herbert Cross Cup 22: 12 on Saturday 6th September

Finchley & District Vets League & Cup
Well done to Colin Malone as Team Manager and everyone who nominated to play, and played for, our VETS teams in the VETS League and Henry Rose Cup. Potters Bar has won both the League and Henry Rose Cup this season (2025). A great squad performance. We took maximum points from our last 2 games thus beating Oakhill by 1 point to win the League, and in a nail biting final end, pipped Broomfield by 1 point to win the Cup.
